Refrion has developed 3 different adiabatic systems
to guarantee maximum system efficiency under different environmental conditions, and a single control system to manage the same.

EFFICIENCY ADIABATIC

HYBRID SPRAY SYSTEM (HSS)

The Hybrid Spray System is a system that cools the exchange surface of the ventilated equipment by directly spraying water.

This system is equipped with special diffuser nozzles that spray water, thus humidifying and lowering the temperature of the intake air.

(The finned pack heat exchanger transfers heat to the atomised water). In this way, the heat exchange capacity is increased, thanks to the combined effect of the adiabatic saturation of the air and the droplets evaporating from the finned pack.

advantages of Hybrid Spray System Refrion

  • The size of the unit can be chosen, taking into consideration the fact that the air entering the exchanger will be much lower than the ambient temperature.
  • A smaller-sized ventilated unit can be chosen with a smaller heat exchanger surface (a smaller footprint and with exchangers that boast a reduced exchange surface).
  • The ventilated equipment can be used to cool the liquid to a temperature lower than that of the ambient air.

The Industrial Adiabatic System, combined with the use of EC (electronically commutated) fans, the “Intelliboard” PLC or a speed regulator, reduces power consumption and noise emission levels (up to 3 dB[A]), in addition to optimising water consumption.

  • No risk of Legionella contamination.

SPRAY ADIABATIC SYSTEM

The Spray Adiabatic System is a system that humidifies the ventilated unit’s intake air by spraying water.

The special nozzles – that make up the Spray Adiabatic System – emit a very thin veil of mist which causes the intake air to humidify and cool at a rate that varies according to the operating conditions.

Description:

  • As the aluminium fins are hydrophilic-coated, the surface tension of the water is weakened and the formation of a thin film of water is extradited on the fins.
  • The special speed regulator – installed on-board the ventilated unit (R, I or U) – controls the adiabatic system
  • Equipped with specific control and drain solenoid valves.
  • The safety thermostat allows the system to be drained during the winter months.
  • The pressure reducer calibrates the pressure required for atomisation.
  • The SOFTWATER electromagnetic system prevents limescale depositing on the finned pack.
  • UV-resistant plastic piping.

  • The size of the ventilated unit can be chosen by calculating that the air inlet temperature will be much lower than the ambient temperature (TCALC << TAMB) – see the example.
  • A smaller-sized ventilated unit can be chosen with a smaller heat exchanger surface.
  • The ventilated equipment can be used to cool the liquid to a temperature lower than that of the ambient air.
  • The Spray Adiabatic System, combined with the use of EC (electronically commutated) fans, the “Intelliboard” PLC or a speed regulator, reduces power consumption and noise emission levels, in addition to optimising water consumption.
  • No risk of Legionella contamination.

INDUSTRIAL ADIABATIC SYSTEM (PADS)

With Refrion’s Industrial Adiabatic System, the ventilated equipment’s intake air is humidified by means of the special adiabatic panels positioned in front of the heat exchangers, upstream of the airflow.

The PADS are evenly soaked via a distribution system with no water recirculation. The air that flows through the adiabatic panels is humidified and cooled at a rate that varies according to the operating conditions.

  • Equipped with a cellulose “PADS” panel, used to distribute water over the ventilated unit’s intake air.
  • The adiabatic system is managed by a speed regulator installed on-board the ventilated unit (R, I, U, D). Complete with a mounted and wired control panel.
  • Equipped with system-draining solenoid valves.
  • Equipped with a safety thermostat for draining the system in the winter months.
  • A pressure reducer that calibrates the required pressure and flow-regulating valves.
  • Multilayer UV-resistant piping.
  • Humidistat to check the ambient humidity.
